Photographing The Everyday.

It doesn't matter if your house is a mess, your kids are grubby, and the dog has just rolled in a large puddle of mud, you need to let go of being perfect, take out your camera and start snapping.
This is an old photo that isn't perfect by any means, but it makes me smile all the same.
We live in a world where everyone is portraying how to be 'perfect'. Don't be perfect - be real - be you. You want to take images of your family that reflect the way they are right now - not how you 'think' they should be.
Here are some fast tips to get you using your camera daily.
- Keep your camera out with your batteries charged and ready to go! Make sure you have clear space on your memory cards too.
- Be Prepared. Have a few spots around the house, inside and outside, that you know work well for taking photos of the kids before they rush out the door. This is super handy on the first day of school as well as dress up days like Book Week and Sports Day.
- If the kids and the dog are messy who cares! A messy kid is a happy kid. Let them be covered in slime and paint and document life as it's happening - your future self will Thank You. Don't stress about trying to be perfect, just take that shot.
- Walk around the house during different times of the day and notice the light coming in. It will be different during the morning, midday and afternoon. This will help you work out what part of the house to take photos in at what time of the day. You're aiming for nice filtered light, not harsh direct light. Try opening curtains and blinds to add or reduce light.
- Do a challenge. Either join in on one of our challenges that we run, or make up your own. Having a purpose to take an image will help you look outside the square and push your imagination while taking the image. You'll find your creativity will flourish and you'll start looking at things differently.
Above all, have fun! Digital cameras allow us to experiment with our images and only keep the ones we like. Win win! Remember, there are no mistakes, only lessons. :)
Happy snapping! :)
I even have special spots worked out at my parents house that I know work well for photos. Makes life so much easier!
This room works really well for light in the early afternoon but it's terrible in the morning.
