My Mini Session Weekend

As I'm preparing for this weekends mini sessions, I thought I'd do a quick blog to run through what I do during a mini session weekend.

This Saturday and Sunday morning I'll be at a local pre-prep taking family photos for their annual fundraiser. These are little mini sessions that we run back to back.

Basically, the school takes a booking fee when the families book, and they get to keep all of it. I then provide the families with a 15 minute photoshoot and a 6x8 mounted print of their choice.

There's no obligation for the families to purchase anything extra, but if they choose too, they can. It's my job to create images that they're going to love and want to purchase.

There are families that will purchase the full gallery and there are families that will just take the free print, and that's okay. It's a numbers game and I expect that there will be some that will only need the updated print. For me, it's all advertising and it's doing a service for the community.

During our 15 minutes together, I make sure we have lots of fun and laughs. I want them to go away from he shoot feeling happy and excited to see their images.

My Mum is coming with me this weekend to greet the clients and chat with them while they're waiting for their turn. I love it when she joins me. Mum's retired and always looking for something to do. I recommend having someone with you on big days like this, to make sure everything runs smoothly. I often bring one of my kids with me to help. Even from primary school age I'd have them helping. I'm nice and close so it's safe for them.

As they're leaving their session, I let them know that the images will be 2-3 weeks away and I'll send them an email once they're ready. This is a great way to let them know what to expect.

Once their images are ready, I'll pop them into an online gallery and send each family their proofs via email.
They have 2 weeks to choose their images and select their 6x8 print. If they don't select their print within the time frame, I'll choose the best image and print it up for them. I have to make this clear and have a deadline, otherwise all the prints won't be back in time for the specified delivery date. Mini sessions are all about bulk and streamline, so you have to be clear on your boundaries.

After the images have been selected and all the orders are in, it's time to deliver them back to the school/organisation. I love seeing all the images printed up and ready for collection.
